Edge Of the World

The Edge of the World
An Update:
The log is woefully behind, know that as we sit here on the edge of the world we are trying our best to catch up. We are in Elfin Cove, at the very top of the Inside Passage. Again we find we are the only boat on the dock. For the past few days we have shared the space with a few of the last salmon trollers of the season, but now with the fish all but gone and the weather having turned nasty, we find ourselves alone. We are ready to go, it is 330 nautical miles to the entrance to Prince William Sound, then another 80 or so to Valdez. The rest is up to the weather gods.
We thought that we would be stuck in Juneau for the past week, but a bit of luck and a lot of unexpected sunshine made it possible for us to make good time. Now we wait for a weather window to cross the Gulf of Alaska. In a perfect situation we will be blessed with 4 days without gales (winds over 40 knots) where the wind blows from any direction but the west. While we are making requests, it would be nice if the swell would be less than 12 feet and the sun would shine. (If we are to dream, we should dream big.)
It is rainy today, as it is most days, as the locals say, “it is a rainforest after all.” It is supposed to rain for the next few days, weeks…rest of the year? Doubtful. It will eventually snow. So we keep our fingers crossed. We are like the ball in a pinball machine, all queued up and ready to go, all we need to do is pull the plunger back and let go…Keep your fingers crossed, we will take all the help we can get.

Today in Elfin Cove, between downpours.

Hey,
What a trip you guys are having! Hope you made it to Valdez. It took me a long time to trace your logbook down. Could not find it on my computer. Jan found it in the end on his work one. We are off to New-Zealand this very next day and we will not return untill end of November. Congratulions on you wedding!
Enjoy your skiing in Valdez!
Lots of luck
