Away. Away.

Away. Away.
Cast off the dock lines! Full steam ahead! The lines are coiled, put away snug for the summer. We are leaving Valdez, heading west.
The salmon are running, Coho and Chinook.
Mountains, bears and berries.
Endless variations of trees and rocks.
Deeper into South Central Alaska we dig.
Deeper into the wilderness we creep.
When will we return?
October?
November?
Who really knows.
After the termination dust, before the big snows.
The wilderness calls and we must follow.
Look at the new images from a kayak trip we took to the Valdez Glacier.

Susanna and Michael,
Always great to hear from you! Obviously the adventure continues - makes our lives seem so placid. We are headed to Bruges for a bike/barge trip for a couple of weeks, but I doubt if we'll have 250 inches of snow (and hopefully not that much rain!).
Susanna -- I know your 'bookshelf' on the boat must be small, but two great reads I've enjoyed this summer are "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert and "The Whistling Season" by Ivan Doig. Enjoy life and keep safe. Best, Leslie and Phil.

Hey, good to see you're off and sailing this season! When does the "sailing season" officially start up there? Have a great time this year, how far to the nearest WiFi hot spot from where you are now? 'Cause I'm thinking we might not hear from y'all for a while...Mark
